MT ETNA/ TAORMINA (Full Day)

Meeting with our driver in Hotel and drive up the Etna South road through a continuously changing landscape of trees, lava flows and endemic plants. Passing through the charming little villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea, reach Rifugio Sapienza at a height of 2000 metres. Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe. Upon arrival, visit the area of Crateri Silvestri (about 2,00 mtrs or 6.000 ft) and see the effects of recent eruptions. Time at leisure. From Rifugio Sapienza you can join an organized excursion (over two hours) to the top. The more adventurous can further take a 4X4 drive to reach the summit at 2,900 meters where Alpine guides escort people on foot to interesting areas. Continue to Taormina called "the pearl of the Ionic Sea", founded in 400 BC and beautifully located overlooking the sea and the peak of Mount Etna. Enjoy time at leisure to shop for handmade lace, coral jewels, ceramics, home-made sweets and preserves down “Corso Umberto” or simply walk through the tiny streets. Possibility to visit the fascinating Roman - Greek theatre. Back to your Hotel in Ragusa.

Important: a English Speaking Driver is a chauffeur specialized to drive you around Sicily. He is able to provide basic historical information and show you the main highlights. However, our English Speaking driver is not a Licensed Tourist Guide (Licensed Tourist Guide: are the only professionals -- with a Regional license -- permitted to conduct visits and tours in all sites and museums within a city) and he cannot escort you inside the monuments because this is not allowed by Italian Rules.
On request, you can hire a Licensed Tourist Guide, paying the supplement to have this extra service and generally meet your local guide on the spot to visit Churches, Museums and/or Archaeological Sites
